The New International Version (NIV) is a completely
new translation of the Holy Bible made by over a hundred scholars working
directly from the best available Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts. Now available
outside the EU / EFTA in an American English version, and inside the EU / EFTA
in an Anglicised (British English) version. For more information on the NIV, please visit
the NIV Info Page at the
Zondervan Publishing House web site.
-
The New American Standard Bible (NASB) is a modern
revision of the ASV. Recognizing the values of the American Standard Verson,
the Lockman Foundation felt an urgency to preserve the ASV by incorporating
recent discoveries of Hebrew and Greek textual sources and by rendering
it into more current English. For more information on the NASB, please visit
About the NASB at the
Lockman Foundation web site.

NEW! The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV) is an authorized
revision of the Revised Standard Version, published in 1952, which was a revision of
the American Standard Version, published in 1901. Following the publication of the
RSV, significant advances were made in the discovery and interpretation of ancient
manuscripts, and in 1974 the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A
authorized a revision of the entire RSV Bible. For more information on the NRSV, please visit
About the NRSV at the
National Council of Churches web site.

NEW! The New King James Version (NKJV) is a revision of the
King James Version published by Thomas Nelson in 1982. From the NKJV Preface, "In harmony with the
purpose of the King James scholars, the translators and editors of the present
work have not pursued a goal of innovation. They have perceived the Holy Bible,
New King James Version, as a continuation of the labors of the earlier translators,
thus unlocking for today's readers the spiritual treasures found especially in the
Authorized Version of the Holy Scriptures." For more information on the NKJV, please visit
the Thomas Nelson website at www.thomasnelson.com.

The King James or Authorized Version, originally
translated at the request of Prince James, King of England, was completed
in 1611. Although the language is archaic in places and sometimes difficult
to understand, it posesses an elegance and accuracy that has made it the
favorite of millions of Bible students since.
-
KJVS combines the King James Version with
embedded Strong's Numbers. See this page
for more information.
-
The American Standard Version was originally published
in 1901 as a revision to the KJV. The language of the ASV is very accurate
and is somewhat easier to understand than the KJV.
-
The Darby translation was originally published in
1890 by John Nelson Darby. Although the language is also a little archaic, it
provides very interesting and unique readings and perspectives. A personal favorite.
-
Young's Literal Translation was originally published in
1898 by Robert Young, the author of Young's Analytical Concordance. The
wording is somewhat different from other english translations as it tries to preserve
the language constructs of the original Hebrew and Greek.
