The CEBible v1.0 Issues Page

Last Updated 10/22/1998:

Issue 1-001: CEBible Version 1.0 Build 0206 - When selecting a passage in the Old Testament between about Numbers 32 and Ezekiel  41, the available verses (displayed under the verse selection box) for the wrong chapter will be displayed. This may incorrectly limit the verse you are able to tap into the verse selection box. (Thanks to Hans-Peter Krummen for the bug report)
Cause: Software bug in verse count tables..
Workaround: If you are unable to enter the verse you would like, either clear the verse selection and leave it blank, or enter the last verse it shows available, and then when the chapter is displayed, use the scroll bar to move down to the desired verse.
Fixed in: Build 0208 and later builds.

Issue 1-002: CEBible Version 1.0 Build 0206 - When selecting 1 Peter and 2 Peter in the NT selection dialog, the display shows "1 Peter:1Pet" or "2 Peter:2Pet". This text will then show up in the passage selection history list and the taskbar icon. (Thanks to Hans-Peter Krummen for the bug report)
Cause: Typos in chapter name list.
Workaround: Ignore.
Fixed in: Build 0209 and later builds.

Issue 1-003: CEBible for Windows CE 1.0 Machines Shipped Prior to 02/21/98: When I open help I get an error message that says "Cannot open bitmap "\Windows\Arrow.2bp' (note the " at the beginning and ' at the end).  Then after the menu comes up if I click on any topic the system gives me about 20 more messages like that including some that refer to "\Windows\rrow.2bp' or "\Windows\2bp' or |Windows\haper.2bp' and other variations on that theme. (Thanks to Lee Vick for the bug report)
Cause: Help files were not adequately tested with CE 1.0. Files work fine with CE 2.0.
Workaround: 1.) Download this tiny zip file containing fixed help files and help bitmaps. 2.) Unzip to a new directory on your desktop machine. 3.) Connect to your HPC with HPC Explorer or Mobile Devices. 4.) Copy or drag all of these files (except for the zip file you downloaded and readme.txt) to the \Windows directory on your HPC. Windows CE 2.0 users do not need this update.
Fixed in: All CEBible products shipped from 02/21/1998 on, builds 0211 and greater.

Issue 1-004: CEBible v1.0 Builds 0211 and Prior, KJV and ASV: CEBible incorrectly displays 1 Samuel 21, 1 Samuel 22, Revelation 19, and Revelation 20. (Thanks to Scott St. Pierre for the bug report)
Cause: The data files were encoded with incorrect entries for the 255th and 256th chapters in each testament.
Workaround: I am working on a small patch to fix the data files - look for it here soon. Also, CEBible 1.0 executables of build 0213 and greater have this patch build in, and will correct the problem without having to patch the data files. We wouldn't want to miss the part where the dragon gets bound, would we?
Fixed in: CEBible data files shipping after 03/01/1998 and CEBible builds 0213 and greater (for any data files).

Issue 1-005: CEBible v1.0 Builds 0211 and Prior: Two or three OT and NT chapters do not allow enough or allow too many verses in the passage selection dialogs.
Cause: A few miscellaneous typos in an internal table.
Workaround: Same as Bug 001.
Fixed in: CEBible builds 0213 and greater.

Issue 1-006: CEBible Install v2.1: If the load to a HPC was interrupted for some reason and the HPC uninstall did not work, the 2.1 install would not allow a new install to overwrite the old.
Cause: Windows CE bug with not cleaning up properly on an install failure.
Workaround: Get updated install program 2.2 or greater from SLSoftware. These will allow a new install to overwrite the old.
Fixed in: CEBible Installs 2.2 and greater.

Issue 1-007: CEBible Build 0220 with Windows CE 1.0 machines: When Build 0220 runs on some Windows CE 1.0 machines, the welcome dialog remains on the screen in front of CEBible. This bug does not occur on CE 2.0 machines.
Cause: Windows CE MFC bug where dialog is not destroyed properly when the dialog object is destroyed.
Workaround: Get Build 0221 from SLSoftware.
Fixed in: CEBible Builds 0221 and greater.

Issue 1-008: CEBible Builds 0220, 0221 with some Windows CE 1.0 machines: CEBible starts to run, shows the welcome dialog, and exits. This bug does not occur on CE 2.0 machines.
Cause: Odd behavior of Windows CE 1.0 when CEBible is loading. (Not my bug! Honest!)
Workaround: For CE 1.0 machines that manifest this problem, contact SLSoftware for Build 0222 which fixes this problem.
Fixed in: CEBible Builds 0222 and greater.

Issue 1-009: CEBible Build 0222 with Windows CE 2.0 machines: When CEBible is running, and then is run again from the start menu without closing the first CEBible, strange things can happen like translations being disabled, etc. You can confirm this bug by checking Settings->System->Task Manager on PPCs, where you might see a passage as one task (like "Matt 1") and one or more tasks named "CEBible". This bug does not occur on CE 1.0 machines, and is more likely to appear on PPCs as there is no "task bar" to easily switch to a program. (Thanks to Michael O'Dell for the bug report.)
Cause: CEBible software bug.
Workaround: If you have switched away from CEBible to another task, use Settings->System->Task Manager to switch back to it instead of restarting CEBible. As this can be inconvenient, if you are affected by this bug, contact SLSoftware for Build 0223 or greater which fixes this problem.
Fixed in: CEBible Builds 0223 and greater.

Issue 1-010: NASB Translations shipped before 08/27/1998 - Errata: Extra text at the end of Acts 7:53 (Thanks to Joseph Squicciarini for the bug report) and quoted text missing from Revelations 4:8, 4:11, 5:9, 5:10, 5:12, 5:13 (Thanks to Rich O'Brien and Curt Morton for the bug reports).
Cause: Parsing errors in my program that processes translations.
Workaround: Contact SLSoftware for an updated NASB data disk that fixes this problem.
Fixed in: NASB Translations shipped after 08/28/1998.

Issue 1-011: Install v2.4 / Flash Card Problems (PPCLoad Failed): The install v2.4 that shipped with some early copies of Build 0223 had a path problem with installing to flash card. If you chose to install to flash card, the install would appear to proceed normally, but at the end it would show a PPCLoad error and quit. The install would work correctly to Storage Memory, however. (Thanks to several people for the bug reports and for helping me diagnose the problem - you know who you are!)
Cause: Microsoft PPCLoad path error (honest!)
Workaround: 1.) Make a copy of your install disk on an empty, formatted floppy 2.) Download a new "setup.exe" 2.5 file from SLSoftware at http://www.slsoftware.com/downloads/Setup.exe and copy this file onto the copy of your installation disk, replacing the existing Setup.exe, 3.) Run Setup.exe from your install disk copy. This should allow you to install to Program Memory or a flash card. If you have any difficulty with this process, please contact SLSoftware for a replacement install disk.
Fixed in: Install v2.5, included in all CEBible orders shipped out 09/08/1998 or later.

If you have an issue with CEBible v1.0 that is not included in this list, please contact with as complete a description as possible and we will investigate. Thanks for your support of CEBible!
